February 2026 Fishing Report – Punta Gorda, Charlotte Harbor & Boca Grande

February 2026 fishing report

February 2026 fishing report

February brought true winter conditions to Punta Gorda and the greater Charlotte Harbor system. Several strong cold fronts pushed through Southwest Florida, temporarily slowing the inshore fishing bite across Charlotte Harbor, Boca Grande, and Port Charlotte. Hard north winds, negative tides, and a temperature drop repositioned fish and forced adjustments day today. Now the warmth is returning.

Water temperatures are climbing back into the high 70s, tides are stabilizing with the changing wind direction, and fish are pushing back onto the flats and mangrove shorelines throughout Punta Gorda and Charlotte Harbor. The transition toward spring fishing in Southwest Florida has officially begun. As conditions improved, we’ve seen classic late-winter staging behavior across the harbor system.

Redfish – Punta Gorda & Charlotte Harbor

·      Lined up along shallow ledges

·      Staged in sand holes near deeper water

·      Moving mangrove edges on positive tides

·      Feeding more consistently as temperatures rise

Redfish fishing in Punta Gorda and Charlotte Harbor has been steady, especially during moving water. After the cold fronts grouped them tightly, warming trends have increased feeding activity.

Spotted Seatrout – Deeper Grass Flats

·      Holding on deeper grass in Charlotte Harbor

·      Quality-sized trout mixed with numbers

·      Best bite on moving tides

·      Afternoon warming periods producing well

The trout bite across Charlotte Harbor and Port Charlotte has been productive despite the fronts. As water temperatures continue to rise, expect trout to begin spreading across additional shallow flats heading into spring.

Sheepshead – Structure &Ledges

·      Bridges

·      Dock pilings

·      Rock piles

·      Deeper ledges near Boca Grande

Sheepshead fishing around structure in Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor remains one of the most reliable patterns. Shrimp around hard structure has consistently produced.

Productive Fishing Styles

Both artificial and live bait have been effective throughout Punta Gorda and the Charlotte Harbor estuary.

Artificial Lures

 ·      Soft plastics

·      Paddle tails

·      Slow presentations near ledges and sand holes

·      Especially productive during warming afternoon tides

Live Bait

 ·      Shrimp around structure

·      Shrimp under mangroves on higher water

·      Effective for both redfish and sheepshead

As water temperatures climb and baitfish begin pushing back onto the flats across Punta Gorda and Boca Grande, the artificial bite should accelerate. We are very close to the full spring transition where bait activity increases dramatically throughout Charlotte Harbor.

February tested us with weather swings, but cold fronts often create strong staging patterns that set up excellent spring fishing in Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, and Boca Grande. With improving tides, rising water temperatures, and stabilizing wind patterns, the spring fishing season in Charlotte Harbor is lining up well.

For anglers planning a fishing charter in Punta Gorda, Charlotte Harbor, Boca Grande, or Port Charlotte, the next 30 to 60 days are shaping up to be some of the most productive of the year.

If you’re looking to target:

·      Redfish on the flats

·      Trout on grass flats

·      Sheepshead around structure

·      A mix of species during a longer inshore trip

Now is the time to secure your date before peak spring traffic increases across Southwest Florida.
